Real-Time Primo-Coding at Scale

Format

• Home prep — about 3 hours, at your own pace.
• Deliverable — a short written design doc or slides (diagrams welcome) that you send us before the interview and present live.
• 1-hour interview:
  • 15 min — present your design
  • 30 min — questions and discussion about the design
  • 15 min — your questions about our systems, the team, us, etc.

Business context

Hospitals are paid by the National Healthcare system based on the medical codes they declare. Those codes are mostly deduced from the medical documents produced by doctors, labs, and other care providers.

What Parallel does today — Optimization. Given the medical documents for a medical stay (healthcareId, admissionDate, dischargeDate), we run AI models to compute medical codes. The hospital has already coded the stay, so we only surface codes they likely missed and that are worth money. They accept or reject them; we take 10% of accepted codes revalorisations. This works for public hospitals because they have 12 months to submit a correction.

The case — Primo-coding for private hospitals

We want to open a new market, which changes two things at once:

• Primo-coding: no optimization. We produce all the codes for all stays, not just the missed ones.
• Private hospitals: coding must be delivered at J+1 — the day after discharge.
